I have taken some psychology courses before, do I need to retake them?

Students may apply for course exemption for up to 4 courses. Exemption is granted upon approval of the relevant course instructor.


Do I have to do a thesis?

Students are not required to do a thesis for the postgraduate diploma in psychology programme. PSY5080 is only one of the elective courses for students' choosing to fulfill the programme requirements.

If students intend to pursue postgraduate training in psychology, thesis research is recommended in order to fulfill the membership eligibility for Hong Kong Psychological Society. All applicants should check with the entrance requirements of the programs that are intended to pursue after the diploma program for better academic planning.


Are all the courses offered in the evening?

No, most of the courses are offered in the daytime concurrent with the undergraduate courses in psychology. Depending on budgetary approval, up to 4 courses may be offered on weeknights or Saturday afternoons.


Can students be informed of the schedule of the course in advance?

Given the scheduling of time and location of the courses is done by the centrally by the Registration and Examination Section of the university, neither individual faculty member nor the department is aware of the schedule of classes until it is released to the students prior to the beginning of the semester.


Is it mandatory that I complete the postgraduate diploma in psychology before applying to other postgraduate psychology programmes?

Admission to other postgraduate psychology programmes is independent from the admission to the postgraduate diploma in psychology. Check with the officer of the relevant programme for eligibility and requirements.


If I can't finish all programme requirements within the normative time period (1 year for full-time students, 2 years for part-time students), can I extend my study?

A continuing fee of HK$8,000/course will be charged to students who cannot complete the 27-unit requirements within the normative time period (one year for full-time; two years for part-time).
